Huck Boyd's Political Influence

Huck Boyd's voice was heard - and heeded - far beyond his weekly newspaper office and the wheat fields of Kansas.

He was an adviser to governors, senators and presidents. Former Sen. Bob Dole and Sen. Pat Roberts of Kansas consider him to be their mentor. Twice a gubernatorial candidate, he represented Kansas on the Republican National Committee for 20 years.

Huck held almost every party position, including president, at one time or another. He was chairman of media arrangements for the 1968, 1972 and 1976 Republican conventions. In 1970, he was one of two public members of the U.S. delegation to the United Nations Economic and Social Council in Geneva, Switzerland.

He was recognized as Kansan of the Year in 1975, the First Kansan of the Decade, Distinguished Kansan for Citizenship and as Kansas State University's Medallion Award recipient.

Huck was a member and chairman of the Kansas Board of Regents, and he served on many other boards of businesses and foundations.
